Read The Book On Becoming Babywise

By Marci Glover

New parents often face tremendous challenges. Nothing in the world can prepare them for the shock of caring for a new baby. The responsibility is overwhelming and many people find themselves not getting enough sleep. After only a few weeks they feel that their lives have been totally taken over by the babies needs and they often become depressed or resentful. This is not a healthy state of affairs for anyone and the entire family will suffer.

There has been an explosion of parenting books in the past few years. It would seem as though today's parents do not have confidence in their child raising skills. They feel that they should look elsewhere for help. With this in mind the latest parenting best seller has been On Becoming Babywise. The authors put a lot of research into their book and it has helped many thousands of parents to get their baby into a good routine.

The book was authored by Theologian Gary Ezzo and pediatrician Robert Bucknam. They felt that it was quite possible to get young babies onto a clear feeding and sleeping schedule starting when they were only a few weeks old. This will ensure a good nights sleep for the parents and a happy and harmonious household.

The premise of Babywise is in direct contradiction to the trend of attached parenting. Many parents find this approach too demanding as it requires them to put their child at the center of their lives. Feeding takes place on the demands of the child and sleeping is usually with parents and child in the same bed. For some people this situation works well, but for others it is simply too much.

The book also argues that some crying is natural for a baby and should not be taken too seriously. They feel it is perfectly fine to allow a baby a few minuets of crying to get themselves to sleep without being picked up. Just about every parent knows how difficult it is to ignore a crying baby and this can be very difficult for many parents.

Most parents have given the book a very good review. They have often mentioned how simple it was to get their baby onto a program, once they realized how to follow the steps. The baby responded well to the approach and by the age of eight to ten weeks they were sleeping through the night and waking happy and rested.

However, as the book is very inexpensive it is worth reading. It can be ordered from the big internet sites for around ten dollars. Used copies are available for much less. Shipping only takes a day or two. Many exhausted parents have been happy to read the book and follow the guidelines.

The book is very reasonably priced and can be purchased in most high street book stores. It can also be ordered on line and will be shipped in a day or two. Many new parents receive it as a gift and are very grateful to those who sent it. Parents are recommending it to other new parents and telling them how well the program has worked for their own baby. Exhausted parents are very willing to give it a try themselves.
