How Unethical Treatment By Psychotherapist Can Be Reported

By Aimee Schwartz

Several people are having mental conditions. They want to be getting rid of these disorders so they are seeking the service of medical professionals. These practitioners could be helping them with these situations.

However, there are cases where harm might also be inflicted by these professionals to them. For this, unethical treatment by psyhotherapist should be reported by the patients immediately. Some factors should be considered when such will be done.

The individual could be noticing warning signs when experiencing harassment. The practitioner could be telling sexual jokes and stories to his patient. He might also be giving seductive looks to his client. He might also be discussing the sex life of his patient excessively. He might also be intimately touching her body parts. He might even be hugging, sitting close to, touching or lying next to his clientele.

The individuals may also experience special treatments from the practitioners. The professionals may ask them for dates or other social activities. They may also receive bouquets of flowers or expensive gifts from them. They may also hear sweet words from these therapists. There are also times that these therapists will confide with them their personal secrets. They may even change their business policies just to accommodate the clients.

Several methods can be done by these individuals so that these incidents can be reported. First, administrative actions can be gone with. Licenses are typically received from specific licensing boards by the practitioners. The therapists will be allowed by the licenses to have their professions legally practiced and their services rendered. If complaints will be filed and submitted to the boards by the patients, the licenses of these professionals might be suspended or even revoked by the authorities.

She could also be going with a professional association action. Most professions are members of a certain association. The association establishes a code of ethics which all members must be following. After filing her complaint with the association, offices will be conducting an investigation. After proving the therapist guilty, they will be removing him from the association. However, he could still be rendering his service although he already has a bad reputation.

The individual could also be going with a civil action. With this option, she could be filing a civil charge with a court and seeking money for damages. Prior to doing so, she needs to be looking for a good lawyer in representing his case to a court. The lawyer could be suggesting the best option for this endeavor. The client could be engaging in a media circus especially if this therapist is well known.

Criminal actions can also be gone with. These actions are applied to those who had sexual encounters with these practitioners. Local law enforcement authorities can be contacted and their cases will be investigated by officers. When enough evidences are found, criminal cases can be charged against these practitioners and penalties will be served, such as prison times or fines.

Whatever action she will be going with, she should be taking note of the duration which she could be filing her complaint, or its statute of limitation. This statute usually lasts for six months from the incident. She should not be enduring this relationship for a long time.
