Others do it because they want to experience the high of taking these substances and simply don't care about the consequences. Although many people who are victims of substance abuse, eventually recover, after making the decision to do so, there are also many side effects and damages to the body and mind that are unfortunately permanent. Some people even suffer from brain damage and other similar medical conditions, due to excessive use of dangerous substances.

There are many non profit organizations out there dedicated to helping victims of substance abuse. The victim however, does need to be willing to give up their bad habit and take the good advise that they will be receiving. These organizations are made up mainly of volunteers that have a genuine desire to help others live a better quality of life.
