Problems Facing Teenagers Today That Should Be Collectively Addressed

The challenges that are faced by the teens are many and even are life threatening. The influence and impact of the threats they face are largely resultant on the place they live or the environments that they expose themselves to on a regular day basis. A parent championed approach is usually the best way to apply preventive measures on the numerous problems facing teenagers today.

Teens nowadays are faced with the challenge of having career focused parents who do not pay time to strengthen the teenager-parent bonds. Studies reveal that those with strong parental bonds tend to be less susceptible to the negative influences in the society and avoid destructive and dangerous behavior.

An upward rise in sexual intercourse among teenagers is a major contribution to early pregnancies eventually resulting into births by the young teenagers who are still naive and unprepared for the accompanying responsibilities. According to the health statistics the children of teen birth usually have poorer outcomes of their health. The exposure of teenagers to new methods such as contraception has resulted in their adventurous nature when it comes to sexual interaction amongst themselves. The mass media also plays a major role in promoting such promiscuous cultures.

Too much influence of modern media on the teenagers such as on Hollywood material influences them into adopting the stereotypical unrealistic lifestyle fantasies. They tend to detach themselves more from the real world. In the modern media violence is promoted as being cool and acceptable. From movies to video games, the hero usually succeeds when he eliminates his foe in a very violent manner.

Another challenge which keeps gaining prominence is the high number of teenagers nowadays not being subjected to the right forms of foods. Very few teens are observing proper nutrition. In fact despite an improved food situation nowadays poor eating habits is affecting everyone irrespective of their social economic endowment. There is more of a liking towards foods that are fatty and a complete disregard for vegetables and salads.

Obesity has become a major problem of the century. This results from an excessive intake of calories accompanied by little or no activity on the part of the individuals. Previously grown up affiliated diseases such as diabetes are ever increasing in the rate of infections in young teens. This results in them being susceptible to heart related diseases and cancer later on in life.

A lot of stereotyping in the mass media of the type of people who can be successful in society brings about frustrations to those who feature in neither of the categories. Lack of a parental figure is usually one of the major contributions to teenage depression especially where they feel downtrodden and unappreciated. They usually get the perception that the best way to get the world attention is to take their own life.

With society putting too much focus on the social dimension of the problems they face, the most basic of problems such as nutrition are more ignored. The number of obese young teens is rapidly on the rise due to poor eating habits. The general shunning of salads and vegetables for more fatty carbs and fast foods results in poor nutrition among the young and exposes them to health risks at the moment as well as in future. Some of this diseases are such as diabetes and cancer. There is a saying that the future is for our kids. However if we do not invest in them, it can only mean that we will not have a future.
